Woo.~
It was a beautiful day this particular afternoon. The sun was shining, birds were singing, and every cloud imaginable drifted blissfully along the big blue mushroom sky. Yes the home we were looking to was none other than Nimbus land- only difference was this was an entirely different region. Probably foreign to you in fact, as this kingdom resides far off from King Nimbus' domain. Not too far though mind you, as many of the cloudfolk from Nimbus land's eastern side can be seen quite often with the Lakitu's in the west.
It may not come as a surprise that the clouds in which Lakitus humbly are accompanied by, almost always have a face. This is not true though with all Lakitus. As a young dweller in the Nimbus kingdom, Lakitus are still bonded with their own cloudy companion. The only difference, is that they are faceless. When a Lakitu of the west is paired with a Cloudfolk of the east, this special bond is said to be a sign of maturity. Lakitus that are too young, or are immature, instead are saddled into what commonly can be called- a Cloudmobile.
Now with that being said, let's have a look at the humble ruler of the western side, and star of this tale- Lynal.
Lingering outside of the local supermarket, King Lynal was hard at work, ringing the donation bell in his hand loud and hard collecting money for a noble cause for the good of his people!
Cereal.
The little king was indeed busy at midday gathering funds to buy himself cereal. However, he has good reason. You see- Lucky Mushroom cereal is offering a special prize for those who collect and mail in over 100 boxtops. A genuine 100% piece of plastic in the shape of a royal scepter. Complete with light up plastic gem at the top. He was absolutely positive that having that scepter was the key thing to looking like a mature king. Who wouldn't look mature holding a scepter? You can swing it around and- point at stuff. Maybe bonk a person or two on the head, it was perfect!
As he rang that tiny little bell, many bystanders passed with a sympathetic grin on their faces placing the money into his bucket, a few women giving him a pat on the head. For being a king, many of the people still consider his dad to be the real ruler- King Lakithunder. Be it as it may that Lakithunder did pass the crown on when he had the chance, he still will dictate as needed and guide Lynal about when he sees fit.
Lynal is in fact quite old, 26 actually, but he's always kept the mentality that he's had since being ten. He says that he simply doesn't believe in growing up- so he never has, but most anybody else that you'd ask about him will answer you with some sort of mental disorder.
Passing by the shop was Lynal's childhood friend and trusted adviser, Lakiluster. She was coming to pick up the local newspaper for herself when she noticed him by the doorway, and that alone struck her as odd. Floating up to him, he already began getting ecstatic. "Hey Lusty~! Were you coming to give me a donation too?" He asked holding his bucked out towards her. With a skeptical look she pushed it aside. "Uhh- no. I was coming just to get a paper and..." She was cut off by her own self, as her eyes caught the attention of something rather strange. "Why does your Cloudmobile have a face?" She questioned with an accusing point. Lynal was a bit thrown off why she'd ask, but after looking down to refresh his memory- he immediatly figured out why. "It's so I can look more mature of course! After all my DAD has a Dark Cloudfolk that he's with, I wanted to have one too. It's also why I'm trying to get THIS-" He shoved a cardboard page into her face which caused her to flail before getting a grip on it to actually see. It was an advertisement from the back of another cereal box explaining how to obtain the Lucky Mushroom's Scepter.
She looked up at him with a rather demeaning glare. "You're trying to cheat money out of our people with a donation post for the sake of trying to win a TOY?" She scolded. Lynal simply frowned at her, a more than unpleasant whine within his voice. "It's NOT cheating! M' earning the money all by myself, and plus that's not a "toy" as you call it- it's a one of a kind genuine plastic scepter. I'll be able to rule all SORTS of things if I have it, which is why I need to get it as soon as I can! >" He replied, thrusting his fist into the air. Pinching at her forehead, she heaved a sigh tossing the cardboard onto the cloudtops and floated into the store to continue her errand. With a bit of a frown he picked the picture up, smiling as he circled the advertisement with his finger. "She'll see.~" He chimed to himself.
Many hours later it was near evening, closing time was coming close for the quaint little shop, and Lynal's stomach growled like Big Bertha closing in on her prey! With his arm the consistency of gelatin, he set the silver bell aside and peered into the bucket with a gleeful smile. Coin after coin he counted the payout of his "work". "Yes! 2346 coins, that's perfect! " He shouted as he hugged the bucket to his chest. Within the moment he quickly swirled over towards the glass doors of his destiny. Entering inside he payed no attention to the lone cashier attendant, who appeared to be melted across the counter in relief that that incessant ringing came to an end.
Scanning isle after isle he found just what he was looking for! "Lucky Mushroom Super Sweetie Cereal~ C8" He giggled, stacking box upon box infront of himself on his Cloudmobile. Collecting his supply he floated over to the now blissful cashier, shoving his leaning tower of boxes up on the counter. "I'ma buy alla these okay~?" He asked the young boy. He was taking aback looking at the mass of what he thought he'd have to go through scanning into bags, but Lynal took the bulk of the work by carrying the boxes away before he could get a single word in, leaving his little bucket for the boy to sort through. Scratching at his head, taking into consideration this was King Lynal, he shrugged it off and began counting the income.
Finally Lynal made his way back home, lopsidedly dropping a box here or there, but making use of his tail he managed to to keep his load in check. Pushing his back against the front door, he worked his way into the house. Normally he wouldn't be greeted so quickly at the door, but being out as long as he was, it came as no surprise that his dad would be suspicious.
"Lynal-" He started out albeit grimly. ".........what's with all the cereal?" He scratched beneath his own crown, quite taken back by such a monstrous hoard. Sure Lynal has a habit of bringing home, odd things, but having this much was a little out of the norm. "Well hi there daddy.~ CB" He chimed to him, almost not even bothering to answer the question as he headed after his room. Luster looked up from her spot on the chair, a bit concerned looking as he completely bypassed the kitchen. "Sire aren't you going to have something for dinner?" "Don't worry I've got it covered!" He shouted back shutting his bedroom door. Thunder and Luster both exchanged worried glares, no doubt thinking the same thing.
"Time to achieve my destiny!" Lynal proclaimed, as he undid the first box. It'd be a complete waste buying all these delicious boxes without eating what's inside! So with spoon in hand, Lynal took after the daunting task of devouring them all.
One by one he stacked the box tops, throwing the empty containers aside. The dry cereal started to scrape at his throat, it becoming more difficult to swallow with each bite he'd take. Still he pressed on. Into the hours of the night when Thunder and Luster are fast asleep, he still lied in wake, striving for his supposed "greatness".
The next morning, with a routine of stretches, loud yawn following suit, Lakithunder awoke from a somewhat decent sleep. The curious thought of what his son had been doing all throughout the night still lingered in his head. So rolling out from beneath his covers, pulling his glasses over and dawning his crown, he heaved himself up and out for the doorway. Walking into the hall it wasn't that much of a trek to find Lynal's room, since he lies directly across from him. He first pressed his head against the door, as if thinking he'd still be awake. To his surprise however, he could still hear the loud crunch of dry cereal!
Shoving the door open he found his son near lopsided on the ground, drearily feeding cereal into his mouth from the very last box. Crumbs were strewn about everywhere, you could almost make a nest from them! Lynal wasn't exactly known for being the most cleanly eater. "Hi *urp* daddy.~" He belched out, limpily lifting the spoon full of the last bite of cereal before falling back on his floor all together. "I think that's enough.......nnnng." He moaned, having worked his way through 50 boxes of sugar covered wheat.
Thunder gave an abrupt slap to his forehead, somehow still amazed at his son's stupidity. "Son you BARELY eat you're own breakfast in the morning and you're telling me you went through 50 boxes of cereal? At night!?" He shouted, pulling him back upright by his cape. "B-but, eht whus worth eht dad~..." He slurred out with a grin, holding that limp little advertisement up once more. Thunder gave him a skeptical yet sympathetic look as he inspected the children's commercial. At first it seemed like the perfect "Lynal" thing to try and get, and he had to admit that was a pretty decent looking piece of plastic! Suddenly though, he was struck with what the date for the prize said.
"Uh... son?"
"Nyeh- yeah??"
"They stopped giving these out a year ago"
"WHAT!?" He shrieked, snatching the cardboard back into his hands with a panicked and glassy look in his eyes. His dad knew that look. Far too well for his own good actually. The inevitable was about to happen right now, and sure enough, Lynal started bawling into the ad. He pressed it hard underneath his goggles as his tears completely soaked through it. At that point he pretty much melted down.
Thunder heaved out a deep sigh. No matter how many times he had to witness his son's stupidity- he always would feel sympathy for him. For one he WAS his dad afterall, but there always seemed to lie this strange sense of innocence about his son that too this day he still feels for.
Lynal continued his river of tears, blowing into that poor little advert like a tissue paper. "Y-you mean I WON'T be able to look more muh-mature!? ;______;" He wailed out. Rubbing at the back of his neck, Thunder sat down onto the floor. "Lynal owning a piece of plastic that lights up like a lava lamp isn't going to make you look mature- besides since you REFUSE to listen to what any doctor says and keep saying that you act like this because you don't want to grow up, it's a little hard for you to look mature with anything." He told him blankly. Lynal just glared up with puppy dog eyes, groping at his tail with a wobbling lip. "Buh-buh-...but I really DON'T want to grow up! >3<;;" He protested. His father simply shook his head about.
"Lynal?"
"Yuh- *sniff* yes? ;3;"
".....You have the logic of a rock." He told him. With that Lynal simply crawled up into his dad's lap, snuggling against him in his broken state. Letting out another sigh Thunder saw no other option other than to wrap an arm around his silly little son.
