So. You're a Mario fan. Have been for a long while. You draw Marioverse art, write Marioverse fiction, and now you're taking the leap toward a Marioverse OC. Where do you begin?
First off, if you're a human princess with the power to control the Star Spirits, have magical LOOOOOVE powers and feathered wings, whom Bowser, Mario, Luigi and pretty much every male lead is in love with, and every female lead is jealous of...kindly gtfo.
Naw. I kid. But really. Don't submit Sues here, darlings. It makes the RP experience painful for all of us.
You have a character, but aren't quite sure if they're a Sue or not? Noooo problem. We have tests for that.
The Original Fiction Mary Sue Litmus Test
The Universal Mary-Sue Litmus Test
I recommend running any and all characters through the tests, just to be sure. It may shed some light on some traits you'd never considered Sueish.
So. You know what a Sue is? Awesome. We don't have to worry about you...or do we?
Where do we begin with character creation? Necessity. Characters are created to fill a role, or a specific niche. Sometimes, they're very general roles. The Comedic Relief, the Straight Man, the Token Jerkface. Figure out what role you want to fill, and then expand on it.
So. You have a role. Now pick a species. For your conveniance, we've got a link to the amazing Super Mario Wiki page listing known species in Marioverse. Pretty spiffy, eh?
Marioverse Species
Cool. You know what your character is. Now...where do they live? What do they do? What do they like? Do they have a small freckle on their shell that looks like a turnip? Filling in odd blanks can be rough. But think of them as normal people, living normal lives, who develop traits and likes through day to day events. Like you.
