Bio:The Crystal King once worked with Bowser, as Bowser had the Star Rod and promised that anyone who helped him destroy Mario would get one wish.
The Crystal King saw this as an opportunity to make his withering kingdom more powerful and wealthy and so he swore loyalty to Bowser as a guardian of one of the Star Spirits and allowed his minions into the palace. Unfortunately, he failed and was defeated by Mario.
Bowser was infuriated by this and refused to grant any wishes, though it wouldn't have mattered anyway since he also lost to Mario.
Because of his failure, most of his people shunned him and left the Crystal Kingdom, though some still stayed by his side. Filled with humiliation and rage at his defeat and failure to uphold his duty as king, he planned to steal the Star Rod away from Bowser as he was healing from his fight with Mario.
But after he was fully healed and was just about to put his plans to action, Princess Peach herself came to his castle, with Mario and his partners escorting her. He was surprised, though this quickly turned into anger, thinking they had come to finish him off or rub his defeat in his face. He was prepared to fight back now and he wouldn't hold back just because a princess was there.
But that wasn't it at all. Princess Peach interrupted what was about to be a fight and asked the Crystal King if he would like to be in the Mushroom Kingdom Parade. Another surprise. She couldn't be serious. But she was. She somehow learned of how Bowser used him and the other guardians. Out of pity and the goodness of her heart, she thought this would be a nice way to cheer them up after their little ordeal and she also agreed to help them with anything else they needed.
At first, the king refused, not wanting her pity. Though Peach tried to change his mind, he still refused and sent them away. Afterwards, Harriet, the only Duplighost that was the closest thing to a friend to the king and his advisor, told him that he could've accepted the offer and that Peach was only trying to help. After lecturing him about how his pride would be the death of his own kingdom, the Crystal King decided to suck it up and accept Peach's offer, his duty to his kingdom coming first.
After the parade and an agreement from Peach that she would do all she could to help improve his kingdom, he returned to his castle. Some of the residents have returned(though the king could really care less)and the servants and helpers of the king help with the kingdom whenever he goes off to somewhere else, whether it be for his duty or a forced vacation.
